The "metochia" during the Ottoman era were small villages, from where the feudal lords and their families were managing their estates. The main feature of these complexes is the orientation of all the houses towards a large inner square. The residences are adjacent to each other and form a perimeter wall towards the outside area while usually there is a vaulted entrance. This particular residence is located in a nice "metochi", just 2500 m from the central Market Square ("Agora") of Chania city. It is a beautiful complex, in which many of the older traditional elements have been preserved.
