LARGE SINGLE-LEVEL STONE HOUSE WITH A GARDEN
The property is in a picturesque village about 10 minutes' drive south from the small seaside town of Kolymbari. It is an old ground-floor house, which is stone-built and needs repairs but was inhabited until recently. Structurally, it has no obvious problems and can become fully functional and habitable with little money. The great advantage of the property is its plot, which has a good shape and is adjacent to a road on three sides. You can build up to 240 m² for main residential use, which allows you to add extra rooms or another floor. If you build an upper level, you will have unobstructed views to the ridge of the White Mountains in the background.
The building follows the traditional Cretan architecture, according to which all areas are connected through a central courtyard. The house is L-shaped and is built at the western end of the plot so that the openings are southeast and the yard and garden are located in the rest of the space. In the yard there is a concrete pergola, where you can plant a grapevine. On the garden there are two big orange trees as well as enough space, if you want to add a swimming pool.
The largest part of the building has slabs on the roof while two rooms have tiled roof. More work is required for a storage area of about 25 m², which is not configured. If you renovate all the spaces, the existing layout allows you to create up to three comfortable bedrooms with open-plan or a separate living space/kitchen area and as many bathrooms as you need. The building is a good choice, if you want to construct a functional house with interesting traditional elements and a garden.
In Kolymbari you will find large supermarkets, schools of all levels, a bank, shops that are open all year as well as a beautiful beach with pebbles and restaurants along the coast. Kissamos is also 20 minutes away, where you will find all kinds of services and shops. Within 5 minutes' drive there is a junction of the northern highway of Crete, from where you can go to the center of Chania and the airport in 30 and 40 minutes' drive, respectively.
