MONASTIC ELEGANCE IN A CASTLE WITH SUPREME POTENTIAL

The property occupies a large part of a monastic-style building with significant historical elements and strong character. It is a Venetian villa, which according to an inscription on the door frame dates back to 1630. As was their standard practice, the Venetians in large part on the ground floor created solid walls and vaulted ceilings supported by arches, which has allowed the entire structure of the building to remain in excellent condition, despite the centuries that have passed. The size of the property is suitable for any professional use but it can also become a residence with countless unique elements, which if you highlight them properly you can have an impressive and luxurious result.

The building has two main frontages that face south and east while then, there is enough space, where a good-sized garden, parking spaces or a swimming pool can be added. Along the frontage of the plot there is a high slope, which adds privacy and ensures beautiful views of the lush surrounding area while there is also a second alternative access. On the first floor there is also a spacious eastern balcony, which among other things has views of the sea and the Gulf of Kissamos in the distance. The building is entirely made of stone. It is arranged over two levels and from time to time modifications have been made in various areas. Therefore, one part has slabs on the roof and another has tiles. Among other things, inside the property there are stone troughs, niches in the walls as well as an impressive Venetian kitchen with "parasia" (old wood-burning oven) on the upper floor.

The entire complex has been designed as a fiefdom for holiday use by the feudal lord of the area. The design is based on the plans of Andrea Palladio, one of the most influential architects of the time with a significant legacy of Renaissance buildings throughout the Italian territory at that time. The architecture and history of the building has also been studied from time to time, with significant reference to it during a massacre against the Turkish invaders in 1825. The building has housed the guard facilities (barracks), the accommodation of the sharecroppers, winepresses, olive oil mills, stables, warehouses, etc.

The village has about 200 permanent residents and consists of small scattered neighborhoods. It also has a traditional café that serves local delicacies while there are also some small tourist guesthouses. The village is surrounded by countless olive groves and areas with native vegetation while it is suitable for hiking as two popular trails pass through it. Within 5 minutes' drive is Topolia. It is one of the villages that visitors pass through on their way to Elafonisi and where you will find some well-stocked mini markets that are open all year round and 3-4 restaurants. For everything else you can go to Kissamos, a small seaside town with 4000 residents at 10 minutes' drive. The city center of Chania and the international airport of western Crete are approximately 60 and 70 minutes' drive away, respectively.
